lunar dragon burnt edge?
3 Attachment(s)
I hope to get some expert opinion on some lunar dragons I bought on ebay. They came in a sealed roll of 5. Every coin's edge has the same burnt look on the Elizabeth side of the coins. Here are some pictures. Anyone seen this before?

tarnished.

Re: lunar dragon burnt edge?
is there a remedy to the tarnishing? They were in air-tights.

Re: lunar dragon burnt edge?
Lunar capsules are not air-tights:( Did you buy these from Maridrew on ebay? I almost jumped on them. Did the seller note the tarnish in their auction?

Re: lunar dragon burnt edge?
I bought from this listing. The seller said they were in perfect condition. :(

Re: lunar dragon burnt edge?
I would kindly ask him why the coins have black on the rims etc... Let him know that you are collector and that they are gifts for your children and you thought they were in "perfect condition" or some other kind of story to to make him think twice about what he conveyed in his listing. The key is to do it nice though. Have you already left him feedback?

Re: lunar dragon burnt edge?
I received the following suggestion from the seller. I will let you know how it works out.
Here is the stuff I use Tarni-sheild by 3M. Put a Q-Tip into the shaken cleaner and apply only to the tarnish. It will take the tarnish off and then buff easily. |
Re: lunar dragon burnt edge?
I use E-Z Est COin Cleaner. It is a dip and you do NOT need to buff. I would not buff your coins at all.

Re: lunar dragon burnt edge?
Tarnish does not affect the grade of a coin and all silver will tarnish after time so a small spot like that is nothing...

Re: lunar dragon burnt edge?
Maybe on reg. bullion but lunar collectors would prefer them to be clean and tarnish free.

I got some e*z*est coin cleaner from a local coin shop and it worked great! They also have a good collection of Australian and Chinese panda silver coins that are listed at reasonable prices.
EDIT: I used my ultra plush microfiber paint detailing towel for drying Here is a before and after: http://goldismoney.info/forums/attac...1&d=1217090709 |

Re: lunar dragon burnt edge?
I just bought a 1994 silver Liberty dollar as a birthday prezzi for a child born that year (won't say what I paid - we EU peeps have 17% VAT on silver ).
In a plastic two part holder, obviously not airtight and quite a bit of tarnish, none at all on either face, but loads round the edge. Seeing that google found that e-Z-est Coin Cleaner costs $4.95 and would have to come from the USA by airmail (4-10 days) or wait 4 -6 weeks for surface mail and I only have 3 days, I got out my trusty old toothbrush, plastic washing-up bowl and tin of Silvo. Cotton gloves, worked on edge only. Washed the polish off with washing-up liquid. Dried with that cloth you use for specs. Success, not a mark or scratch. But I wouldn't recommend it for a "numismatic." :no_ma: |

I've noticed that only a part of the side of the coin is reeded. Is this normal for 2oz lunars? |

10 oz snake that is reeded all around, so I think is probably just the 2000 coins. |
